Baccarat Objective

The aim of Baccarat to correctly guess whether the player's or the dealer's hand will be the closest to 9 or result in a tie.

Playing Baccarat

Once you have placed a stake on the 3 possible outcomes (player wins or dealer wins or tie) you and the dealer are dealt 2 cards. The value of ten & face cards = 0, aces = 1.

Note that the largest hand value is 9, if a hand total exceeds 9 and goes into double digits only the last digit counts i.e. 15 => 5:

Hand Hand Value
9+6 = 15 5
5+5+4 = 14 4
10+8 = 8 8 (referred to as natural)
10+9 = 9 Natural 9 (highest hand)

Third Card Rule

Depending on the player's hand value, they may receive a third card, but if either the player or the dealer has hand value of 8-9 ('naturals') then no further draws are made. The table below shows the outcome depending on the player's hand.

After the Player's hand receives a third card (if applicable) the dealer plays and may draw a third card according to these rules:
